As Airbnb and DoorDash file their IPOs this week, we want to congratulate these incredible founders and countless team members who made it happen.
Ten years ago, we jumped at the chance to support Brian Chesky, Nathan Blecharczyk, and Joe Gebbia as they pursue their vision to create a global community where people can belong, anywhere. Three years later, we were seed investors in Tony Xu, Stanley Tang, Andy Fang, and Evan Moore, when DoorDash was delivering for a few dozen restaurants in Palo Alto.
Along with building incredible businesses, these founders are also making an indelible impact on society today. For example, Airbnb has facilitated hosts’ ability to open their homes to emergency housing through their Open Homes program along with many other philanthropic endeavors. DoorDash created large scale programs to feed vulnerable communities in the face of COVID-19 and is using their tech to lower food insecurity and reduce waste.
We’re humbled and honored that so many incredible founders have allowed us to support their visions from Day One, from our early support of Google, Facebook, and Twitter in the 1990s and 2000s, to Slack, Pinterest, and Snap more recently.
We’re lucky to meet so many great founders every day. And just as we have done for the last 25 years, we’re still investing in one new company every week.
As we close out the most challenging year many of us have ever experienced, we want to take a moment to celebrate and congratulate the current and former team members of Airbnb and DoorDash. We look forward to their continued success and to welcoming many more companies into the SV Angel family in 2021.
